Q: What is the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund (Canada)?
- A: On September 25 1998, the world's largest classroom ever assembled gathered at Toronto's Roger’s Centre (SkyDome) for a celebration with our founder, Mr. Nelson R. Mandela. On that day, over 40,000 school children helped to launch the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund (Canada). The Nelson Mandela Children's Fund (Canada) supports the programs and activities of the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund in South Africa by providing financial assistance to empower, nurture, motivate and care for children and youth in South Africa from impoverished backgrounds. To maximize the impact of our resources, we secure matching grants from the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), and other funding agencies, foundations, corporations and individuals committed to sustainable development in South Africa. Secondly, we work within schools in Canada to educate Canadian youth about South Africa’s culture and history, and the importance of international development and leadership.
