Spirit Of Mandela

Spirit of Mandela week was first established in 2003 to support the development programs of the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund. Our programs focus on the wellbeing of children, children with disabilities, youth and development and leadership and excellence. All funds raised will help disadvantaged children and youth in South Africa through the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund (Canada)

Over the years, the Spirit of Mandela week has grown and expanded across the province through the help of thousands of students, teachers and volunteers. Kathleen Wynne, the Minister of Education in Ontario, has given her strong support to this initiative and education stakeholders across the board are helping us to drive this initiative.

April 27th is a very important date because it commemorates South Africa’s first free democratic elections, which were held in 1994. The curriculum-based Spirit of Mandela week culminates with the Toonie Drive as close to April 27th as possible.
